Congressman testifies on behalf of those who wish to snowmobile in Yellowstone National Park
Washington, DC - Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson testified today in the House Resources Subcommittee on National Parks about the importance of allowing snowmobile use in Yellowstone National Park. "If you haven't seen Yellowstone in the winter, then you haven't seen Yellowstone," said Simpson. "And the best way to experience it is by riding on a snowmobile." Simpson addressed the fact that snowmobiles are only allowed to travel on existing, paved roads. These are the same roads that millions of tourists drive on every year to see Yellowstone in non-winter months. "People who enjoy snowmobiling come from all walks of life," said Simpson. "They're people who enjoy the outdoors, time with their families, and the recreational opportunities our diverse environment offers. These are people who not only enjoy the natural resources through which they ride, but understand the important balance between enjoying and conserving our natural resources." Simpson also stressed the impact on businesses in the West Yellowstone area due to snowmobile riders. "Prohibiting the use of snowmobiles would have a devastating effect on the communities who rely on tourism during winter months for their economic well-being," said Simpson.
